| Subject: Genius Matematik tolak hadiah USD 1 Juta? Wed May 26, 2010 6:23 pm | |
| Gregory Perelman at High School Today the Fields medal congress has started in Madrid, and theirpress service officially declared that Perelman refuses to accept hisField’s medal, an award that’s being considered as important amongmathematicians as Nobel prize among other scientists. It is not known why Nobel chose not to establish a prize inMathematics, although there are several theories about the lack of one, nevertheless the history of the Fields Medal begins in the Committeeof the International Congress set up by the University of Toronto inNovember of 1923, with the purpose of organizing the 1924 Congress tobe held in Toronto. This decision of the bright mathematician confuses the Field’s medalcommission. They actually now don’t know to whom they can award theprize So a few days ago there was a “Fields Medal” event, and Russian genius,Dr. Gregory Perelman, the bright mathematician who solved the “PoincareConjecture” refused his award. It’s a well known story now, beingdiscussed a lot. What is interesting – Mr. Perelman has left St.Petersburg where he lived and worked, and nobody knows where is he.And even the national media number one, “The First Channel” could notfind him for an interview. They had to have him in the night newsregarding his unclaimed Fields Medal and another 1 million dollar prize– but nobody managed to find him. So they decided to take a picture ofthe professor from the source known for anybody now, from Internet. They dug a little and got Associated Press image that was shown ondifferent other medias. But editors in “Channel 1” decided that theexterior of the genius is not cool, they couldn’t imagine they wouldbroadcast somebody with a brilliant mind and not wearing a tie and asuit. That are the traces of the Soviet thinking, for many years peoplewere kept very strict and nothing changed now. Look what they have done: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grigori_PerelmanST PETERSBURG: Seorang lelaki warga Russia yang dikatakan orang paling bijak di dunia, menolak hadiah wang tunai berjumlah AS$1 juta (RM3.3 juta) yang diberikan kepadanya selepas berjaya menyelesaikan satu masalah matematik paling sukar. – Agensi | |
